In 2011, The Poets reformed for a few gigs. Initially a couple of guest spot numbers were performed at the first Edinburgh,’Bottom Rung Big Beat Festival’ where, in spite of a rather feedback laden sound-system they went down very well with the rather surprised audience!
The first official gig was to have been at the unfortunately cancelled ‘Big Stramash’ in Edinburgh. However, the initial gig became rather sadly, a tribute to former member Hume Paton (who sadly passed away in 2011) at ‘The 13th Note’ in Glasgow.
The following gig was at Glasgow’s Eyes Wide Open’ club night at Stereo.
The next stop for ‘The Poets’ was a session for the BBC. Long time Poets fan, Vic Galloway presented a fine interview and live session with ‘The Poets’.
Original Poets member Tony Myles was unable to make the session, as explained by George Gallacher, but is still producing some fine music. This video by ‘The Poets’ original member Tony Myles is certainly worth a listen. Whilst it is not attempting to sound like it had been recorded originally in the sixties, without too much effort there is still more than a generous hint of that distinct Poets ‘drone’present (at least to these ears!).
The Poets are playing in April at The Beat Bespoke 8, so grab your tickets now!
